Senior Tests

As doggies and kitties get to the senior years of life, they require special care.  FVC has put in place a list of 6 tests that check for common ailments of seniors.  We decided that since we are well into our senior years we should preform these tests.

We began with a paw-ticure and a butt-i-cure.

Then off to the x-ray room.

I was the brave one and went first.

Dr. Rushing reviewed the x-ray and said it looked good but that I have arthritis in my mid and lower back. :(  She also pointed out I ate a large breakfast :) and if you look on the left hand side towards the top you can even see my microchip.  Cool huh?!?!?

It took some convincing but we finally got Bobo up there.

After review Dr. Rushing said Bobo look all good.

The other test we opted for was the EKG.  Now we were both shaking in the corner when we saw this machine but Buttercup was the brave one and tried it out and since she survived we decided we could do it too!

OH MY DOG! It was super easy.  We got to lay down on the surgery table and have three little clips put on us.  A few minutes we were done and got lots of loving!

Dr. Rushing said my "P" waves were long, which may mean I have an enlarged heart but didn't see that on x-ray.  So in about 6 months or 3.5 dog years I need to be rechecked.

Bobo's was picture perfect!

For completing our first senior tests we got these way cool wallet cards.

Dr. Rushing even put fun stickers on them to show which tests we had completed.

We are going to wait to do the blood tests until toofer cleaning time so we only has to have one pokie in our wittle necks.    Now I'm not sure what a urinalysis involves but it doesn't sound good at all!

Maybe we won't do them all...hmmm...

10 Years Adopted

Its all in the tag....

I can't believe that 10 years ago my "want a puppy" feeling led me to the most incredible dog ever!  I have always heard the expression you don't get the dog you want, you get the dog you need.  That could have never been more true back in 2003 when I took in a "useless" little breeder female named "Molly".  I knew nothing about rescue or rehabilitation but when I held that frightened little girl in my arms I knew I couldn't leave her behind in that tiny kennel.

Mollie Jo has taught me many things over the past decade; take a chance on the underdog, be patient, treats are our friend, a dog can NEVER have too many collars (or tags), get excited about the little things in life (yard sales, shopping, and walkies), play with toys every chance you get, always celebrate a good meal by rubbing your head and it is a grand thing to have earned the love of a dog.

When I come home from work and am greeted by her wagging, whining and flipping a toy through the air, when I see how excited she is to go shopping, or when I see her totally relaxed napping in my recliner I am  happy that I took a chance on that "useless" dog.

I hope for 10 more with you my Jo Jo!

We has no Poodle-ing Power

It was a nice quiet Sunday morning an we was watching mom clean and bam the power went off. At first we though mom forgets to pay the bill. But the electric company said a rogue squirrel gots on the lines and blew up a transformer thingie. So I'm just relaxing on the porch watching the birds flutter around.

Vaccines, Exams and a Special Tag

Well it's that time of year again.  Yep annual vaccination time for me!

I got paw my appointment onto the schedule.  How cool milk bones is that?!?!?

On the day of my appointment we had to wake up furry early, eat a good healthy breakfast and go into work with momma

When it was my appointment time Dr. Flanary called me up to the treatment and area pulled out all the tools of torture.

And for my annual "im not cooperating with this" photo.  :)

After vaccinations it was wrestle time with Bobo!

One weekend back in August I was snooping....dusting the rabies tag bin at work and I found this rabies tag with a way cool number, 60310.  "6" is the number of toys I keep in my bed, "03" is the year I was adopted, and "10" is how many years I have been adopted come this November. So I slipped it into the doggie bag and when my vaccination day came I gave it to Dr. Flanary and said I would like this rabies tag.  She giggled that I had chosen my own tag but when I found a tag with a number this special I just had to have it.

Cat-Tracts in my Eye

Well the drops did the trick.  My eye is no longer red!  Which is good.  Dr. Flanary said the next thing to do is check the pressure in my eyes.  I didn't know what this involved or I wouldn't have agreed to it.  This Toto-Pen has to touch the surface of my eye for like a million minutes and then it tells what the pressure is in my eye.  Thank dog I had Buttercup to hold my paw through the whole thing!

The pressure in my right eye, the eye with the cat-tracks, was 19.  It should be under 15.

Dr. Flanary said that I need to continue my eye drops for another 6 weeks and recheck my eye pressure.

So everynight momma or grandma tucks me in to bed, administers my eye drops and gives me a kiss on the head.

This growing older stuff is for the birds!!!

Piggie Sitting

Hello furiends!  You will NEVER guess what we got to do today!

We got to pet-sit a little piggie!  Her name is Penelope.  She is Morgan's (Vet Tech at the clinic) pig.  She is a rescue that she took in and is bottle raising.  For Labor Day Morgan wanted to go to the lake with friends and asked if we would piggie sit.  Well of course we said yes!

She is smaller than my stuffie buddy Buttercup!

Penelope says "Hello my barn yard furiend, I'm Penelope Pig"

She even has her own piggie-bag.  Filled with foods, meds and dishes.  She is a posh piggie!

After we got her home we realized she squealed a lot at new things, like poodles, so we went outside to play while mommy fed her and when we came back inside she was sound asleep!  She is super cute when she sleeps!

We had fun piggie-sitting!  What did you all do on this long weekend?

Colorful Lizards, Cleaning Collars and Eye Drops!

Here are a few highlights from the past few weeks!

We have a new friend that has been spotted more than once around our porch.  He is a fast little blue tailed lizard. Isn't he the cutest?!?

Some of our collars have been getting dingy so Buttercup helped us wash them by paw.  Tide works great to get them looking brand new and smelling fresh!

While giving me one of my numerous skunk related baffs momma noticed my right eye, which has a cataract, was red when my left eye was not.  So she had Dr. Flanary take a look at it.  Dr. Flanary stained my eye green to look for a scratch or ulcer but found nothing and determined the redness came from my cataract making my eye inflamed.  So now I has to have drops at bed time.  In one week I will have to have my eye rechecked.  Getting old is no fun! :(

Skunk-ified Country Poodles

Our time in skunk jail was long and hard mentally!  We were forced to eat our meals, snacks and sleep in skunk jail!  We spent 23 hours locked up cause we stunk. We only got out a few times a day to go outside LEASHED to pee.  They were horrible conditions!  And it gets worse...

All of our beds and toys were taken from us!!!

Momma handled us with gloves, spayed the room with air freshner ALOT and caked our furs with baking soda/dawn/vinegar/peroxide mixtures!

The night we got sprayed we got sprayed we were loaded up in the car, and forced to sit on the mudflap, and hauled to the clinic for our first bath.  So as a result our car stunk!  Momma emptied bottles of lysol into it but nothing helped except a ton of airing out!  Only now a month later its finally quit smelling.

In the rush to get us to the clinic for a baff momma forgots to take out out stroller and well it stunk too.  Took a wee for it to air out but smells fine now! :) Thank dog cause what is a mature poodle like me supposed to do with no stroller!?!?!

Momma's heart sank once she realized our tags, rubits and collars smelled!  Bobo's worse than mine as he took a direct hit...I just got a mild spray.  BOL There is an up side to not being first at everything!  ;)  But a 2 week soak in vinegar, dawn, baking soda and peroxide saved both collars, both rubits and our name tags.  Our soft plastic homeagain tags sadly were goners and were tossed away!

And after many scenes like this one....

We are free country poodles once again.

Since Bobo did take the bigger hit he still kinda smells if he gets wet but its mild.  Not like the first night.

Ewww I think he got a wiff of himself! :)

Shake it off brother!  It feels good!

Oh my poodle doodles!

Brother says it wasn't worth this much baff time to chase a wild animal!

Momma hopes we has learned our lesson and threatens that if we do it again we will be sleeping outside.  I don't think she is serious but ya never knows!

Non stinky Wags and Licks,
Mollie and Bobo

Note From the momma: They only had to spend 72 hours in jail.  Mollie Got released first and that depressed Bobo to the extreme but they both lived.  Im not sure my nose will ever be the same after smelling it but thankfully its all gone!  The vinegar, peroxide, baking soda and dawn mix really did the trick and highly recommend it if your pet get sknunked.  Rub it on the dog and soak the collars/accessories.
